Maintenance Tips
Water Heaters
The Plumbing Therapist can provide maintenance and repairs on most water heaters. We are also a warranty service provider for most manufactures. Please note that it is very important to follow the instructions that came with your water heater if you decide not to have a qualified service technician perform the maintenance of your water heater. Failure to follow the instructions can result in death, explosion, and/or electrical shock. Always wear gloves, goggles and other protective clothing while performing maintenance on your water heater. Scheduling a maintenance appointment to ensure that your water heater is performing correctly/efficiently can also detect other problems such as gas leaks. We can discuss with you ways to reduce your monthly water heating bills. 1. Draining and Flushing: It is recommend that the tank be drained and flushed every 6 months to remove sediment which may buildup during operation. Sediment build up in the tank can reduce your water heater's energy efficiency and also clog your water lines. 2. Both gas and electric water heaters have a safety device called a pressure relief valve. Check the pressure-relief valve once a year to make sure it is not clogged and to ensure it is working properly. In the event the tank over-pressurizes, the relief valve opens and releases the pressure. If the valve does not operate correctly, the tank can over pressurize and explode. If the temperature and pressure relief valve is dripping or leaking, have a qualified service technician replace it.
